The rain, the rain eats
away at you. First to go is your cheer, then any extra energy and by
the time the callouses have been soaked and washed away from your
hands your spirits are broken. Or mine is at least. I just walk
around in my rainwear and do the work while I wait for lunch or for
the day to be over. And there have only been raining for a week. I'm
not cut out for this sort of place, not really.
I have said before that in
bad weather the work follow a steady routine. No surprises, no extra
work. Right now I would gladly bring in hey until 9 pm if I could
only a full day of sunshine, and when the sun decides to show up, I
know I will. You know, for obvious reasons the grass is put up to dry
in ways that allows it to dry even if it is raining. Most of the
grass will not see any water, only the outside layer will get wet. So
when the weather clears you don't have to wait for the sun to do the
work, the wind have already done it for you. With just a few days of
sunshine the hey will be dry and ready to take in to the barn. We
haven't had good enough weather in weeks, so when sunshine comes we
will have a shit ton of work to do in whatever window of nice weather
we get.
